North Coast
The North Coast region stretches from the world-renowned winegrape growing regions of Napa and Sonoma northward along the coast to rural Del Norte county on the California-Oregon border.
The climate in the southern and central parts of this region is temperate, with fall, winter and spring rains, warm summers and few frosts. The northern sector is characterized by higher rainfall and cooler summers.
Winegrapes, of course, are of primary importance to the agricultural economy of this region. However, they are not alone in their contribution: also important are pears and apples in Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties. Dairy and fluid milk production, as well as small vegetable and nursery operations also play a significant role in agriculture in this region.
