Southeast Interior

Regional Information about California Produce

southeast_interiorThe Southeast Interior incorporates a large expanse of land including Tuolunme and Mono counties in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Inyo and San Bernadino in the high desert, and Riverside and Imperial in the southern desert valleys.

Climatic conditions vary accordingly, with the higher elevations having colder winters and short growing seasons, and the southern desert valley supporting year-round agricultural production for numerous crops.

Citrus and subtropical crops, as well as vegetables are produced in the desert valleys and include avocados, dates, grapefruit, mandarins, lemons, tangerines and tangelos, carrots, sweet corn, lettuce, melons and potatoes. Field crops (oats, sugar beets and wheat) are also produced here, as are livestock products (cattle and calves, chickens and eggs, milk and cream and aquaculture).
